Dissecting Kendrick Lamar’s The Heart Part 4

On Thursday, Kendrick Lamar posted a rather cryptic picture to his Instagram. The picture above is all it was. Just ‘IV’, no caption, no nothing. Kendrick only posts to his Instagram when he is up to something. There was much speculation as to what this picture meant. The most obvious conclusion to draw was that he is going to release his fourth album soon. Later Thursday he seemed to confirm this speculation.

Late Thursday Kendrick released “The Heart Part 4”. The fourth installment of his “The Heart” series of songs. In this seemingly out-of-nowhere release Kendrick proclaims himself the legendary “Hip-Hop Rap Savior”. He then describes roughly what he’s been up to the past couple of years after releasing TPAB in early 2015 (yes, he released Untitled Unmastered in 2016, but that was just a side piece). He’s been spending money and planning his evil plan to take over the world again like every other rapper does.

The second verse is when things get heated.

“My fans can’t wait for me to son ya punk ass
And crush your whole lil’ shit
I’ll Big Pun ya punk ass, you a scared little bitch”

Woahhhhhh Kendrick. Why are you so angry? Let’s get something out of the way: Kendrick is not coming at Drake on this track. They have never had a beef, and it is better for the both of them to leave each other alone. Drake and Kendrick Lamar are at the top of the rap game and everyone else is below them. Kendrick is quite clearly coming at Big Sean on this. They haven’t gotten along ever since “Control”. They both dropped little sneak disses at one another over past year or so, and this is Kendrick is bubbling over now. There’s a lot to break down in this song. Good thing Genius.com does it all for us!

The biggest takeaway from this song is that Kendrick Lamar is kinda mad, at everyone and everything. His last line of the song is what’s most important out of all of this

“You know what time it is, ante up, this is in forever. Y’all got ’til April the 7th to get ya’ll shit together”

Be prepared for Kendrick to shake the world of music once again come April 7th, brace yourselves.

Don’t tell a lie on me, I won’t tell the truth bout you.
